Acquaviva San Marino
The Municipality of Acquaviva covers an area of 4,86 km2 and, by 2003 estimates, has a population of 1,678. It borders on the Municipalities of Borgo Maggiore and City of San Marino and with the Italian towns of San Leo (Province of Pesaro-Urbino) and Verucchio (Province of Rimini).
This territory contains two mythical locations for the San Marino population: firstly, the Cliff of the Baldasserona, is believed to be the locality where St. Marino first settled. In fact, on the cliff there is a large opening in the rock where St. Marino, according to legend, found refuge. For the San Marino population this is the point in which their history began.
Another location which is part of the early history of San Marino is Mount Cerreto. The baptismal font, where the Saint baptized the first Christians of the Titano community, was situated at the foot of the hill; hence the origin of the name "Acquaviva".
Moreover, historical documents show that in the "Castle of Mount Cerreto", which can be identified with Acquaviva, in 885, the most ancient document of the Republic of San Marino the "Placito Feretrano" was issued.
The Municipal Hall is Casa del Castello di Acquaviva, Piazza Castello di Monte Cerreto 1, tel. 0549.999208.
