The Flag of San Marino
Originally the State Flag was white, yellow and purple. The present-day flag, which was adopted on April 6, 1862, is composed of two horizontal bands: the upper half is white and the lower half, light blue.
The center of the flag contains a coat-of-arms, consisting of a shield with three peaks and three plumed fortress towers.
The shield is bordered with two green boughs tied with a ribbon with the motto "Libertas" and topped by crown which symbolize sovereignty.
The domestic flags; namely, the ones displayed outside the various Municipal Halls, all have the same proportions (3:4), a local coat-of-arms in the center and the two horizontal white and azure bands.
