Map of San Marino
The surface of 4,86 kmē with 1.678 San Marino inhabitants (survey dated 2003). It borders with Borgo Maggiore Castle and Town of San Marino and the Italian Municipality of San Leo (PU) and Verucchio (RN).
In this territory are situated two "mythical" places for San Marino inhabitants. The first one, the rupe della Baldasserona (Rock of Baldasserona) is considered the place of Titano Mount where the Saint Marino stopped the first time. In the rock there is a big fence that might be the first shelter of the Saint Founder. Rather here by this rock, the history of San Marino started.
Another place with great importance for the history of San Marino is Montecerreto. At the foot of the hill there was the source utilized by the Saint to baptize the first Christians of the Titano community and that is why this place is named "Acquaviva".
Historical documents testify that "in the Castle of Montecerreto" and exactly by Acquaviva, (885) Placito Feretrano was issued. It is the oldest document of the Republic of San Marino.
