Domagnano San Marino
The Municipality of Domagnano covers an area of 6,62 km2 and has approximately 2,714 inhabitants (2003 estimate). The territory is divided into three towns: Domagnano, Fiorina and Torraccia. It borders on the Municipalities of Faetano, Borgo Maggiore and Serravalle and with the Italian town of Coriano (Province of Rimini).
Remains from the Roman era, coins and jewelry, discovered over a century ago in this area, are evidence that Domagnano was already inhabited at that time. In fact, the name Domagnano can be traced to "Domenianus" (which can be interpreted as "private estate") or to "Omagnano" which calls to mind "locksmiths" or simply, those who work metals.
The ancient fortress of the Malatesta Family, previously an observation tower in the hands of the Longobards and annexed to San Marino in 1463, is situated on Mount Lupo in the small town of Torraccia in Domagnano.
The address of the Municipal Hall is Casa del Castello di Domagnano, Via Giosuè Carducci 11, tel. 0549.906518.
