Faetano San Marino
The Municipality of Faetano, according to estimates of 2003, has a population of 1,081 and covers an area of 7,75 km2. It borders on the Municipalities of Montegiardino, Fiorentino, Borgo Maggiore e Domagnano and with the Italian towns of Coriano and Montescudo (Province of Rimini) and Sassofeltrio (Province of Pesaro-Urbino).
Along with Montegiardino, Fiorentino and Serravalle, Faetano was one of the "Castra Subdita", ex Malatesta castles, which became part of the San Marino territory in 1463 and since then are subject to the laws of the Republic. Faetano, with the others, was annexed to the Mount Titano community during the war between the League of Pio II and Sigismondo Pandolfo Malatesta. When they arrived at Faetano, the San Marino troops defeated a surrendering army. A year later, though, after an act of retaliation of the local population, for revenge, the fortress city was destroyed. Today there remains a small group of houses with a central square and the Church of San Paolo.
The Municipal Hall is Casa del Castello di Faetano, Piazza del Massaro, tel. 054.996158
