Iconography of Marino da Arbe

The physical aspects of Marino da Arbe are unknown; there are no images of him, either dating back directly to him or to the period in which he lived. Over the years, the artists who painted his portraits imagined him under various aspects. Before the XVII century San Marino was generally represented as a young man; later on, however, he was represented an an old, austere man, often depicted with his stone-cutting equipment, with a tamed bear, carrying Mount Titano or with Mount Titano in the background.
