Museum of Ancient Arms San Marino
The story of the evolution of military arms, the passage from sidearems (spades, daggers and crossbows) to firearms; 700 examples from all over the world. The Museum displays less than half of its complete collection of arms, which amounts to approximately 2.000 pieces. The collection was completed by State of San Marino between 1956 and 1972.
The Museum opened in 1956, thanks to an agreement stipulated with Giovanni Carlo Giorgetti, a well-known collector of arms from San Marino. The objects on display include original suits of armour, prototypes and experimental arms of enormous value: such as the dagger-pistol of 1730, the two-handed spade of the XVI century and the double pistol, with two barrels and two triggers dating to the end of the 1800's. Moreover, the Museum becomes more interesting thanks to its particular "setting": the objects are exhibited in the four rooms of the Second Tower.
