Wonders

From December to Epiphany the historic centre of San Marino lights up with the Christmas of Wonders: markets, House of Father Christmas, ice rink in the Crossbowmen's Quarry, shows and themed menus in the restaurants. Each edition changes themes, street artists and attractions, with a renewed programme year by year.

§ I — Markets

Chalets in the alleys

The Christmas Markets animate the historic centre with a series of wooden chalets arranged along the alleys and squares. Local craftsmanship, decorations, gift goods, clothing and above all gastronomy: the stalls of sweets and traditional Sammarinese products are among the most sought-after attractions. The Torta Tre Monti and the bustrengo appear in all their homemade variants.

§ II — Village of Wonders

The House of Father Christmas

Next to the market, the Village of Wonders is the area dedicated to families. Trails of games, workshops and entertainment, with the House of Father Christmas and the houses of his Elf helpers: the storyteller reads tales aloud, the face painter transforms younger visitors, the postman collects letters to be delivered on Christmas night.

§ III — Ice rink

Ice in the Quarry

The most evocative attraction of the festive period is the ice rink set up in the Crossbowmen's Quarry. The natural rock amphitheatre lives a season completely different from that of the Medieval Days, with skaters of all ages against the backdrop of the tuff walls.

    Jugglers, mimes, living statues and small theatre companies animate the alleys on the opening weekends.

    Gospel choirs, folk bands, jazz formations: the music programme covers evenings and festivities with concerts of various genres.

    Venues in the historic centre offer traditional festive dishes, end-of-year dinners and menus dedicated to a Sammarinese Christmas.

    New Year in the squares

    On the night of 31 December the great New Year party occupies the squares of the historic centre with music, shows and a collective toast.

Frequently asked questions

When is the Christmas of Wonders held?
The event covers the festive season, from December to early January. Markets are open on 6-8 and 13-14 December, then continuously from 20 to 31 December and from 1 to 6 January, from 10:00 to 19:30. On 25 December and 1 January opening is only 15:00 to 19:30.
Where are the markets?
In the historic centre of the City of San Marino, with characteristic wooden chalets distributed along the alleys and squares. Next to the markets the Village of Wonders is set up.
What is the Village of Wonders?
