History in full figure

The scenes are built as small stages on which life-size wax figures, dressed in period costume and placed in reconstructed settings, perform episodes of history. The style is the traditional one of European wax museums of the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, with work on proportions and verisimilitude that gives the route an immediate theatrical effect. The scenes are updated and integrated over time.

The Sammarinese core of the museum portrays some founding moments of the Republic: the scene depicting Saint Marinus in his first refuge carved into the rock of the Titano, the visit of Napoleon and the negotiation conducted by Antonio Onofri with the French officials, the drafting of the Placito Feretrano and the best-known episodes of the relationship between the Republic and Italy in the centuries of national unification.

From Garibaldi to melodrama

The Risorgimento section gathers Giuseppe Garibaldi, Vittorio Emanuele II, Camillo Benso di Cavour, Giuseppe Mazzini and other protagonists of nineteenth-century Italy. The episode of Garibaldi's transit on the Titano in 1849 holds a place of importance: it is one of the moments when the small Republic enters directly into the story of unified Italy. Two thematic sections dedicated to the figures of melodrama and to early-twentieth-century Italian history complete the visit.
